Judge Neil Gorsuch has been confirmed to the Supreme Court of the United States on Friday, after Senate Republicans changed procedural rules and needed a simple majority of 51 votes.
The final vote was 54 in support, 45 against.
The ninth Supreme Court seat has been vacant since the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February 2016.
President Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland the following March
but the nomination was successfully delayed by senate republicans until after the 2016 general election.
Only two democrats voted in support of Judge Gorsuch.
