Jafar Hussain, a resident of the city of Bareilly (a small city in the state of Uttar Pradesh) in India. Has reportedly killed Farheen, his daughter. By throwing her on the ground repeatedly after he noticed her scarf slipping off her head while she was having lunch.
His wife had tried intervening but didn’t manage to prevent the killing and got a beating too.
He then asked his wife to bury the body of her daughter in the house which she refused to do. His neighbors described him as unstable mentally. And a staunchly religious man who was obsessed as far as screening women is concerned.
The Superintendent of Police, Brijesh Srivastava, said that they arrested him for killing his child. And were currently questioning him on the entire incident. In the meanwhile, the minor’s body has been sent for a post-mortem.
It is said that his daughter didn’t realize her dupatta, a traditional scarf worn on the head by Muslims. Had fallen off her head. If Jafar does get convicted, it would just be the latest religious act of violence in this region where these acts occur regularly.
